Modified Equipment
Many fishers accessing the Fishers Unlimited programs have a physical limitation of some form. For some it may be a mobility restriction that requires them to choose a site that is accessible with a wheelchair. Other fishers may have some limitation with their upper limb mobility and require assistance by way of modified equipment.
One example of this type of equipment is the motorised reel kit as used in the Fishers Unlimited programs. The reels use a small battery operated motor to mechanically retrieve the line (and fish of course). Motors are powered by a rechargeable sealed lead acid 12-volt battery with 20 hours capacity. Battery comes complete with easy to handle cover and the kit also includes a reel cover and instructions for use and care.
A standard push button switch is included in the kit, however other styles of switches, such as jelly bean and puffer tube can be obtained.
Types of reels used to build the kits do vary from time to time, but the following is a “typical” standard of the type of reel used.
