Fishers Unlimited Programs
The Fishers with Disabilities Association through its Fishers Unlimited programs promotes participation in recreational fishing by people with disabilities.
The programs are group based – with shore fishing activities groups ranging from 8 to 24. Group sizes are generally dependent on the location being fished. On boat activities numbers are dictated by the capacity of the vessel.
Fishers Unlimited programs are enjoyed by people with many different goals; some participants are experiencing their first exposure to recreational fishing, others are experienced fishers trying the modified equipment to see if it can assist to increase their level of independence and some come along to enjoy the recreational pursuits their local community has to offer.
Programs are set for a six month period; January - June and August – December, with calendars being mailed out in December and June of each year. You can also access the calendar on line.
It is important to remember that bookings are essential for all activities.
Shore Fishing Programs
Shore fishing with volunteers from the Fishers with Disabilities Association is an activity enjoyed by participants young and old.
Activities are held in the metropolitan area at locations chosen for accessibility to the waters edge and with consideration to the availability of accessible toilets and parking facilities.
Volunteers provide instruction in fishing and gear, with both standard and motorised reels being available. Several switch types are available for the motorised reels, including jelly bean switches, head tilt and blow tubes, providing different operating methods depending on upper limb limitations.
All fishing equipment and bait is provided and there is no charge for the activity. Please view our shore fishing brochure for more information on these activities.
